The Topic for 2010:
How are Fulbright scholars in business, government, NGO and higher education working - individually or collaboratively - to prepare for and secure a better future? How are science, technology and other innovations being used as a catalyst for economic development? How are social sciences playing a role in the sustainability effort?
As part of a Sustainability Initiative, FAST is convening a leadership group to make a real difference. Plenary lectures will lead into workshops giving all participants the opportunity to explore the potential compatibility of economic growth and social well-being.
The conference will build upon the outcomes of previous FAST programs while also promoting some of the most current developments in areas such as economic and business sustainability, agricultural and food sustainability, social development and technological innovation. During the past five years, FAST conferences and workshops have been held in Ecuador, Germany, Macedonia, Morocco, Qatar, Singapore and the USA.
At this conference, the 250+ participants will meet experts in economics, business development, engineering, natural and social sciences, technology, medicine, public policy, as well as Fulbright scholars whose personal or business interests relate to those fields. As with other FAST programs, the conference is designed for Fulbright alumni, hosts, and friends, but registration is open to the public.
Key Themes for Exploration:
- Energy
- Food & Agriculture
- Human Security (e.g. war over natural resources)
- Water & Land/ Biodiversity
