Alumni Groups and Directories of Grantees

The Fulbright Program began before there were computerized databases and the internet, and it is administered by 51 national commissions and dozens of other agencies and organizations.  As a result, there is no comprehensive directory of grantees.  Here are some sources of information on grantees.

The directories mentioned above allow you to search by name, country, and subject area.  The data was accurate at the time of the grant, but many people have moved to new institutions.  To find an individual and their contact information, you often will need to do a supplementary search using Google or similar search engine.

Other programs named after Senator Fulbright:

The J.William & Harriet Fulbright Center seeks to promote world peace and nonviolent means of resolving conflicts through education, interaction, and engagement.  The Center is new non-profit organization founded by Mr. Harriet Mayor Fulbright, wife of the late Senator Fulbright.

The J.William Fulbright College of Arts & Sciences is the undergraduate program at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. It enrolls around 6,600 students in 19 departments and offers degrees in the arts, humanities, sciences, and social sciences.

The Fulbright Economics Teaching Program (FETP), located on the campus of the Economics University in Ho Chi Minh City, is managed by the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Each year the program offers 55-60 Vietnamese mid-level managers a 10-month curriculum on market economics, and runs additional short-term seminars.

National Fulbright Commissions

Fulbright binational commissions and foundations are non-profit organizations established to oversee the Fulbright Program abroad. Commissions propose annual country programs, which establish the numbers and categories of grants, based on requests from local institutions. There are currently 51 commissions worldwide, 41 of which are funded jointly by the United States and the host government. Each commission or foundation has a board composed of an equal number of Americans and citizens of the host country. In a country without a commission, the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy develops and supervises the Fulbright Program.

The US State Department maintains a worldwide list of addresses for Fulbright Binational Commissions and Foundations. For countries without a Fulbright Commission, please refer to the list of websites for U.S. Embassies and other Diplomatic Missions.
