For sixty years, Fulbright scholars have been advising businesses, governments, and other organizations on a broad range of science and technology issues. Since its creation in 1946, the goal of the exchange program has been to honor top scientists and promising young professionals by providing opportunties to conduct research and share their knowledge, while also serving a broader public interest - increasing mutual understanding among nations.
A grass-roots organization established by alumni of that exchange program, the Fulbright Academy of Science & Technology (FAST) continues that dual mission. FAST started operations in 2003 as a volunteer-based initiative. Since then, we have grown to be a fully-staffed non-profit 501-c-3 organization. Today, FAST had individual and institutional members in more than 50 countries. Our institutional members are listed elsewhere on this website. In early 2005, the Academy launched a three-year $500,000 fundraising campaign, with funds coming from memberships, grants, contracts, and donations. Nearly half of the goal was reached by of July 2006 (the half-way point in the campaign), and the campain goal was completed on-time. The Academy's 2008 cash and in-kind income was over $300,000. Due to the receccion, FAST's 2009 income was lower. (see box at right for annual reports)
