Fulbright Forum - Newsletter of the Fulbright Academy - November2009
The Fulbright Academy of Science & Technology wishes you a happy Thanksgiving, and is
pleased to share with you a copy of our monthly newsletter. Click here for our Thanksgiving greeting (pdf file)
In Particular,
- We thank the Alumni and the Science Community in Budapest, who helped make our program there two weeks ago such
a success. The FAST Intro to International Science Research program introduces minority undergraduate students to more
senior researchers from other countries, and is partially funded by the US National Science Foundation through consortiums of US universities.
Our participation in the World Science Forum was made possible by the Hungarian Academy of Science and the
US-NSF, and our time in Budapest was also enhanced by the help of many local Fulbrighters, the University of Texas-El Paso, and Eotvos Lorand
University (ELTE).
- We thank four Alumnae in Boston, who spoke at a Women in Science Forum organized jointly by FAST and Northeastern
University. The Forum introduced younger women researchers to more senior researchers whose work had been enhanced through international collaborations, and is
part of an ongoing series of FAST Women in Science programs. The alumnae came from Northeastern, MIT, Boston College and Boston University. (For those who
forget their Latin, "alumnae" is the plural form when referring to women.)
- We thank the Alumni Community in Atlanta, as locals helped organize two FAST networking events last week as part of our
Fall Board of Directors Retreat. The Board met with dozens of Fulbrighters, and made some critical decisions about FAST's future - including adding
six alumni to the Board (see list at the end of this newsletter)
- We thank the Fulbright Alumni Community in California, as they are playing a key role in preparing an excellent 5th
Annual Conference for FAST and its global network of Fulbrighters. Some details about the March 11-14, 2010 Conference are below. We also thank the
University of Heidelberg for their offer to host our March 2011 Conference.
- We thank your Institutional Members, who often play a key role in FAST programs - by hosting events, securing funding
for activities or doing outreach to alumni. New and recently renewing members include Brigham Young University, Chicago State University-LSAMP, Monsanto
Corporation, Emory University, Duke University and the University of South Florida. FAST also has a growing network of international partners and
members.
- We also thank the hundreds of individuals who support our programs through their dues and their extra contributions
of time, knowledge, money and connections.
